“This is the MCTV Weekday Update,” Scott Pelley announces with a booming voice, introducing the student newscast.

The student-produced MCTV Weekday Update resumed production on Monday.

MCTV is a newscast produced by students that airs Monday through Thursday on The Hub@TTU. The MCTV crew reports on everything happening on campus and around Lubbock.

The first newscast of the semester was anchored by veteran MCTV crew members, Kelsee Pitman and Courtney Plunk. The freshman journalism majors enjoy anchoring together.

“and now I’m anchoring all the time.”

“I did it, like, once with a random person, which made me really nervous,” Pitman said. “But, the next time Courtney came with me, so it was a lot more relaxing, and now I’m anchoring all the time.”
Pitman and Plunk both said they enjoy watching old editions of MCTV, to see how they have progressed and improved. Plunk said she likes to get involved with the school by reporting what is going on.

“I just like the interaction with everyone, and getting the experience with a broadcast,” Plunk said.

There were many familiar faces behind the scenes as well. MCTV is a volunteer broadcast, with many students helping out. Students learn how to work every position, and rotate through each job. Beginning this semester, there is also a practicum class, in which students produce content to air on the show.

Pitman said it is easy to get involved and earn some experience with the newscast.

“Just e-mail, and they’ll hook you up right away,” Pitman said. “I had no experience, and they took me in so fast, and now I’m anchoring all the time.”

If you would like to be a part of MCTV, you can e-mail Assistant Professor Kelly Kaufhold, Ph.D., at kelly.kaufhold@ttu.edu. You may also stop by the MCTV studio from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m in MCOM 355.
