Inside Peek: Ad Team, Sixteenth Meeting

We started off our meeting with great news! The Lubbock Advertising Federation is helping sponsor our trip and gave us a hefty check. Luckily, we have almost everything paid for. The Ad Team will be hosting a give back night at Chili’s on University all day on February 24th to make the rest of the money needed to head to competition.

Bichard also discussed the upcoming Addy Award on Saturday, February 22nd. Every year several Ad Team students volunteer to help decorate and set up the event with the Lubbock Advertising Federation. These students will be able to attend the event free of charge, meet professionals, and enjoy an exciting evening.

We began business by turning in our rough drafts for Bichard and Steven, the Account Executive, to look over in the other room before they call each group individually to discuss our work. While each group is going through their rough draft, the other groups were asking to work on our positioning statement, target segment names, events and non-traditional media, etc. The positioning statement can be very difficult to create because it encompasses the theme for the entire campaign in two sentences.

My group was the second group to be called. We sat down in front of Bichard and Steven as they went through and discussed our rough draft. Luckily, they did not make our paper bleed and cry from corrections. They went over things that needed to be thought out more, changed, or fixed. We also tried to brainstorm more ideas and placements for media and promotions. Our group has several very strong ideas that we believe would stand out and no one else would have, but we could always use more.

During the closing of the meeting, we went over all of our upcoming deadlines. These deadlines are set to make sure we are completely prepared for competition come April. The put the fast pace of the Ad Team in perspective, here are our deadlines:

February 11th, this meeting: the rough draft for the book was due
February 23rd: graded draft for the book is due at Midnight
February 25th: edits for the book are given back, tryouts for the presentation team
March 15th: final drafts for the book is due by 9:00 am
March 17-21: Spring Break, yeah right! 🙂 working in committees and final book design
March 19th: final draft of book to be printed
March 19-21: working on powerpoint presentation, props, and practice
April 16-17: AAF Competition in Austin!

At this point, nerves and excitement are truly setting in. I think everyone is slowly beginning to realize the pressure that has now set in with upcoming deadlines.
