Restaurant Review: La Diosa Cellars

After three and a half years of living in Lubbock I finally got to try the hype that I had been missing out on.

Welcome to La Diosa, a bohemian style bistro with Spanish flare. The moment I walked into the venue I found it inviting. I went to dinner with my mother and from the moment we sat down I was already enjoying myself.

My mom and I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant.

We ordered a pitcher of their homemade sangria to start. First off, my mom and I are experts when it comes to sangria. Not only to we love to drink it, but we also like to make it. I give La Diosa’s sangria a five-star rating.

If sangria isn’t your thing, have no fear, there is plenty of wine and some beer. What’s nice about La Diosa is they take over the chore of pairing food and drink for you. Next to each menu item there are a few suggestions on which wine or drink to order with your food.

The menu has many options. When you go to La Diosa, the concept is to share your food with whoever is in your party. Everything is served in small portions so it is easy to try a little bit of something from every section of the menu. My mom and I ordered two Lada Diosas and one Angelina.

enchilladas

The cheese enchiladas were amazing!

angelina tapas

And of course, you have to try the tapas.

The Lada Diosa is a dish of stacked cheese enchiladas topped with Spanish salsa, black beans, and pico. It also comes with a side of homemade guacamole and corn tortilla chips. The Angelina tapas consisted of small baguette toasts beneath fresh goat cheese, Spanish onion marmalade and broiled with prosciutto crisps.

Both of the tapas were very good. I already know what I want to try at my next visit. What’s neat about La Diosa is there are all forms of culture inside the restaurant. Many of my friends have studied abroad in Spain and when they talk about the culture they describe the ambiance to be relaxing and mellow. That’s exactly how La Diosa is.

On the weekends they have live music and it’s the perfect touch to add to a dinner experience. The band played some slower songs that blended right in with La Diosa’s atmosphere.

As I looked around the room I also noticed that there were many age differences when it came to the customers. There were people who ranged from their 20’s to an older couple that was sipping wine in the back.

The perfect cup of sangria and I.

Overall I enjoyed my visit to the uniquely simple bistro. I will be returning, hopefully sooner than later.

You can find La Diosa in the Depot District behind Louie Louie’s Dueling Piano Bar.
