Lubbock Man Arrested for Aggravated Robbery in Craigslist Scam

Ryan Arcos, 21, was arrested in Lubbock on Jan. 31, after being accused of robbing two people at gunpoint more than a month before during a Craigslist scam, according to Lubbock police reports.

Victims Zach Ochoa, 19, and Alyssa Franco, 16, arranged to meet with Arcos on Dec. 23, 2013, to buy a PlayStation 4, according to the police report, which alleged that Arcos was selling the console in a fake Craigslist ad.

Ochoa said he and his girlfriend, Franco, had contacted Arcos, who posted the ad online, and agreed to meet him in front of an apartment complex at 50th Street and Chicago Avenue.

“When we went to meet him he led us to an apartment which looked like he was going to enter,” Ochoa said. “Then he turned around and pointed a gun at us and asked for our money.”

Ochoa said Franco, who was holding around $500, cried and convinced Arcos not to take all of their money.

“He still took $250,” Ochoa said. “She counted out his money, gave it to him, then he ran off.”=

According to the offense report, after Arcos fled on foot, police weren’t able to locate him immediately.

On Jan. 31, Officer Richard Sosa of LPD arrested Arcos for valid and outstanding warrants after he was located in the 1300 block of 65th Street in Lubbock, according to the police report. The report says after his arrest, Arcos was transported to the Lubbock Police Department.

Officer Sosa was not available at the Lubbock Police Department or returned emails or phone calls requesting comment. Further information and sources were not given by police department employees.

Ochoa said after Arcos was arrested, he and Franco were able to identify him in a photo line-up. The offense report states that Arcos was booked into the Lubbock County Jail, where he is being held on a first-degree felony count of aggravated robbery and a misdemeanor charge of theft, according to jail records.

Ochoa said he and Franco have not received their money back yet, but that they recently filled out paperwork to begin the process of reimbursement.

Jail records state Arcos has not yet been released. His bail is set at $4,800 for theft and $200,000 for aggravated robbery.
