Inside Peek: Ad Team, Fifth Meeting

The first thing we discussed in our meeting was our fundraiser bowling tournament. I don’t think I explained why it is a fundraiser yet! For our competition in April, we have to travel to Austin to compete. We are trying to raise money to get there and back, hotel, and other things we may need for the trip. Brittany found the website with the dates and locations for all the districts and one of them is going to compete in Hawaii! I wish we were going there. Ha ha.

Anyway, we talked about getting teams and donations for the silent auction. i have already found my team, but I want to try to find another one that would be students. We also talked about attending a webinar on how to conduct research, as a refresher course. I know how to do research, but it can be really complicated and there is always something more to learn. Last thing — before we presented each group’s work, we voted on a new name! Our name is now Bullet with a new logo coming soon!

The most hilarious and exciting part of the meeting was teaching the guys all about makeup! We held a version of Q&A with the guys where they asked us all kinds of questions about makeup and the girls were able to explain why we do this crazy thing every day. We went over the differences in makeup, like powder and liquid foundation. We went over function of each piece and their applications, like brushes. Then, we went through a step-by-step process of how to put on makeup and what goes on when. We also went through touchups during the day and what girls touchup, day versus night makeup, your hair and outfit with certain makeup, brand loyalty, trends, and all overall questions. The guys were able to get a well-rounded view about makeup. They also realized why we are so crazy. Ha ha! It’s because we go through so much just to look good, duh!

Our group was the first group and we presented the survey that we created. Each team split up to read over the survey and see what questions they thought were important and ones they didn’t care for. I was surprised that the entire time everyone was very constructive with their views and no one had an all-out battle of who was right. Everyone had good insights that helped us word our questions better and created new ones that would better help being creative.

The secondary insight team found interesting information over fragrance, skin care, direct selling approaches, online selling, and current trends. They focused on information from Mary Kay competitors, what they are doing, and how well it is working for them. It helps us better understand what is already being done so we can create fresh ideas.

The two idea teams, strangely, looked at the same information. The first team looked at what competitors were doing to see if they would fit our brand. They also looked at Mary Kay’s packaging and selling approaches. They discussed how they are currently, what people like and do not like, and what could be changed to make them better. The second group also discussed the independent beauty consultants and how they can be adapted to fit our generation.

The last part of the meeting, Steven read over two pieces of advice from the “Box of Wisdom” left from the previous Ad Team.

Confidence! You made the team and should be proud of yourself. You are on the team for a reason.

Give your opinion! Be heard. You have good opinions that someone may not have thought of. Don’t fret about judges.
