Inside Peek: Ad Team, Bowling Tournament

South Plains Lanes

The bowling tournament was success! Although we only had around seven teams, our silent auction items were amazing.

We had many different items that we were giving away. There was a photography session, gift certificates for paying bills, handmade cross, television basket with different TV show items, canes basket, scarves, and gift cards to a variety of places. We also had two Texas Tech themed baskets with ornaments, shirts, a blanket, a scarf, and a signed pom squad photograph.

In my opinion, there was a clear top three silent auction items. The Central Market gift basket had a variety of different healthy food and snack items. Alamo Drafthouse donated a Cinephile card that was free passes for two for a year and 10% off food and non-alcoholic beverage. I wish I could have won this item! It would have been amazing to have a date night all the time, haha, but many people had their eyes on this one. It created a huge bidding war between two people and ended at $177.

Kliff Kingsbury FootballThe top silent auction item, that went for $230 and $240, was the Kliff Kingsbury signed football! We had two of them to auction off, but only put one on display. After the bidding was over, we asked the runner up if they wanted to purchase the other ball. Of course he wanted the ball!

Overall, the bowling tournament did well. We could see that all the participants and teams enjoyed playing and drinking some beer. It was funny to watch the two faculty teams, since they were next to each other and smack talking. It was fun to see the professors enjoy a day off and see that they also have lives besides grading.

I really enjoy these events and going to ad team ‘parties’. Since I am kind of shy at first, it really helps me to open up and get to know the rest of the team. Everyone is really nice and has such amazing personalities. No, I am not just saying this to be nice! I think it is going to be a really good year since everyone is getting along so well. I think things will run smoothly up to competition, which is important. I would hate to see people starting to not like each other, especially if they are in the same group. That would be the last thing we need if we want to perform well and create a good campaign. Although, I’m not too worried. This is a really good group of people.

Due to the weather this weekend and the snow, our group meeting that was planned for Sunday night was cancelled. Therefore, we will not be meeting again until after Thanksgiving break. I don’t think that will stop anyone from thinking about Mary Kay and what is coming up next!
