Where To Go In Lubbock This Holiday Season

By Caitlyn Nix

Finals may be over, but Lubbock’s festivities are most definitely not. For Texas Tech students staying in town a little longer, the city has much to offer to celebrate the holidays.

Few out-of-town students know what to expect, however. Allen Kalebjian, a senior from Allen, Texas, said the only Christmas event he knows about in Lubbock is the Carol of Lights.

Graduate student Megan Crabtree from Frisco, Texas, said this is her first year in Lubbock and she has no idea what is going on around here this holiday season.

“I would love to know of some fun, holiday things to do with friends,” Crabtree said. “I am not going home right after finals so it would be nice to have something to do when everyone leaves.”

And, indeed, there is.

One of Lubbock’s oldest traditions is Santa Land. The free event has been hosted by Lubbock Parks and Recreation for the past 58 years, according to Visit Lubbock.

Santa Land is held at Mackenzie Park starting tomorrow, Dec. 10, through Wednesday, Dec. 23. People of all ages can come out to meet Mr. and Mrs. Clause and enjoy some holiday lights and displays.

Another holiday event is the annual Miracles Christmas Parade, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12. The parade will start at 34th and Avenue Q and make its way toward Indiana Avenue.

For those who love holiday lights, Lubbock In The Loop has posted a Christmas light map. Print it off and go tour Lubbock to see the homes with the most beautiful lights in town.
