What To Expect From Media Industry At The Hub

Welcome back to school, Red Raiders!

With classes finally underway and the summer break long gone (or so it feels like), Texas Tech University is prepping for a historic semester with record student attendance and interest in the university. To all of the new freshmen and returning students, welcome to Texas Tech.

During this school year, my job is to keep you updated on everything happening in the College of Media and Communication. I will be conducting numerous interviews with our outstanding faculty and alumni to bring you insight regarding success in the classroom and tips to getting an internship or job.

I will also be highlighting the opportunities our college gives students to obtain real-world experience in many fields. Did you know our college has its own radio station? Or that Fox Sports Southwest and Fox College Sports now carry our student-run, magazine-style sports show, The Double T Insider? These are only a few of the many opportunities students have to expand their knowledge in the field of their choosing.

A variety of organizations are available for students to meet other peers sharing the same interests or major. For example, our Ad Team recently placed third in a national competition in Florida. RaiderComm, our student-run public relations firm, works with real clients in Lubbock. The college even offers two Greek co-ed fraternities for students.

Although there is a vast array of activities and opportunities in our college, I will also provide resources and guides students will find useful. For example, industry-specific terms like SEO (Search Engine Optimization), or CPC (Cost Per Click), are often confused, and I will provide guides and knowledge gathered from resources, classes and internships I have had the chance to learn from. The Adobe Creative Suite software collection is another area I plan on highlighting and providing guidance on.

Providing insight into our college and its opportunities is very important, but so are you, students. Highlighting the terrific work you are doing is vital to the health of our college. Any time you have an article, idea, video, class project or whatever it may be that you deem can get published, send it over to The Hub! We’d love to read what you are producing. If you simply want insight into something you are producing, feel free to send it our way, too. Getting published on The Hub is a great way to showcase your writing to yourself, your professors, the community and potential employers. Recruiters for internships and jobs want to see your published work, and The Hub is a great place to do so. Send your stuff our way!

As you can see, our stories revolve around daily life in our college. I hope I can bring your stories and ideas that are relevant and beneficial to not only your education but your future as well.

Make sure to follow The Hub on social media! We’ll update you with anything going on in our college or in the industry.
