Texas Tech Vs. Baylor Recap

Untitled

The Texas Tech Red Raiders played the Baylor Bears on Nov. 16 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The final score was 63-34, Baylor. Even though Tech lost, there were many things that the Red Raiders did well, especially during the first quarter of the game.

When we entered the stadium, it was intense. The place was split down the middle, with one half wearing yellow and green, and the other red and black.  The stadium went absolutely crazy as both teams stormed the field.

It was time for kickoff. Baylor started the game by kicking the ball to Bradley Marquez. The crowd cheered as Baker Mayfield took the field at quarterback. On Tech’s first drive, they scored. Then Baylor got the ball, but was unable to put up any points.

On Tech’s second possession, they got another touchdown. You sensed that Baylor began to get nervous, but they responded with a touchdown, making the score 14-7.

Tech now had the ball for the third time. They drove down the field and scored with an amazing catch by Eric Ward. However, they did miss the extra point attempt, bringing the score to 20. At that point in the game, I was thinking we may actually be able to upset Baylor.

After holding the Baylor defense again, Tech went on for a fourth drive. Unfortunately, Tech was forced to punt, and Baylor returned the punt for a touchdown.

Tech took the field yet again, but right away, Mayfield threw an interception right into a Baylor player.  They went on to score off  the turnover as well. Baylor had the lead by one. This was the point where the Red Raiders begin to fall apart. The first quarter finally ended, but it felt as if I had already watched a full game.

In the second quarter, Tech did not perform as well as they should have.  They only put up one touchdown, while Baylor put up two. We ended the first half with Tech at 27 and Baylor at 35.

The third quarter finally came around, and Tech did not look as energetic as they did when they came out for the first quarter. Baylor started the quarter with possession and scored right off the bat with a running touchdown.  This was the quarter where Baylor really took over this game. During the duration of this quarter, Tech only made one touchdown while Baylor made three.

Tech fought hard to the end, but was unable to put up more points in the fourth. Baylor made one more touchdown. The final score was 63-34, Baylor.

It was a rough game to sit through, especially after coming off of three straight losses. However, the first quarter definitely showed promise for Tech. If the Red Raiders can play like that against Texas for the whole game, we should hopefully walk away with an eight and four season.
