  1. This is ludicrous for anyone to say that there is not ANY racism at Tech. There’s racism everywhere in America, whether you’ve experienced it personally or not. Wake up Tech!

  2. “No, I don’t think there is racism at Texas Tech”

Have you seen every fraternity on campus? Pretty sure racism exists at Texas Tech.

  3. PersonalExperience says

Is there racism at Tech? Duh, of course. I will give a personal story. The day after President Barack Obama was elected I got on the elevator at Chitwood and had 3 female white students complaining and yelling in my ear about how disgusted they were by the results and how anyone who voted for him is a F— idiot. I ignored it moved on and walked to class. As I walked past Stangel/Murdough a white male looked at me angrily and spit at my feet, again I did my best to ignore it. Ill make note that I didn’t even vote, and the behavior exhibited by other tech students was obviously (imho) based off the assumption that minorities voted for President Obama.

This happened along with other incidents on that day alone. Many of my friends that are minorities as well had similar stories on that day and have had other incidents of racial discrimination occur in general on Tech’s campus unrelated to elections.

Tech has a race problem just like every other campus and the rest of this country. The question that we should be addressing is what specific experiences have people had on campus and then start looking for change and dialogue there. A poll alone doesn’t determine a race problem on campus. It exists whether or not people choose to see it.

The Hub is working on an extensive project about race at Texas Tech. Look for it in February!
