What To Know Before Heading To The Polls – Texas Senate Edition

Since former state Sen. Robert Duncan has a new office at Texas Tech University, a special election will be held to fill his vacant state senate seat.

Before you vote on Sept. 9, here is everything you need to know about each candidate.

Jodey Arrington, R-Texas

Experience:

  • Special Assistant to the United States president under Pres. George W. Bush (2000-2001)
  • Texas Tech University System Chief of Staff (2007-present)

  • Opposes universal healthcare

E.M. Garza, R-Texas

Experience:

  • Military background
  • No political experience

Delwin Jones, R-Texas

Experience:

  • Involved in politics since 1964
  • Texas House of Representatives, District 83 (1989-2011)
  • Oldest member of Texas House of Representatives in 2011

Kerry Douglas McKennon, L-Texas

  • Pursued acting and directing in New York City

Charles Perry, R-Texas
