Tweet It Like You Mean It

Texas Tech has an array of Twitter parodies, but the real question is, how are they formed? Where do people come up with these ideas? Does one person manage the mayhem or do they have sidekicks? The truth is out. Three Texas Tech Twitter accounts agreed to spill their secrets, and one even chose to reveal his identity.

If you look at his Twitter page, Bryce Ell seems like any other normal Tech student. He has 147 followers and has a decent amount of tweets, but what many don’t know is Ell is fairly famous elsewhere in the ‘Twittersphere.”

Ell and one of his close friends manages the TTU Bus Driver Twitter parody account. If you have not taken the time to skim through what the kid has written, it might make your bad day better.

“It started in April last semester,” he said. “I was sitting on the bus one day and I was bored, just like every other student is on the bus. I was on twitter and stumbled across a bus driver account from A&M. Basically, I turned it into a better version. Theirs was pretty stupid. All they did was tweet about bus routes. I tried to make it funny.”

Apparently he turned out to be comical in many students eyes. With over 3,000 followers, Ell definitely gets a retweet or 200. Casual. When you read his tweets you instantly can’t help but laugh. When asked if he finds himself tweeting more on his own personal account compared to TTU Bus Driver, his reply was simple.

“Yeah. It comes and goes,” he said “Every once in awhile I’ll get a role on TTU Bus Driver and tweet on that. When I’m drunk I tend to tweet on TTU Bus Driver more because I can drunk tweet and I won’t have any regrets in the morning.”

Ell said he also finds other Twitter parodies just as amusing. He said he found out about the Texas Tech Crushes account only recently. Texas Tech Crushes reports on who has a crush on who around Tech. If you haven’t seen this Twitter page yet, you might have been tweeted about and not even know it yet.

Texas Tech Crushes did not want their identities to be revealed. This being said, it might be hard, considering three girls run the account. They said they stole the idea from other universities. The account has not been around long, but it’s been blowing up my Twitter feed daily. Texas Tech Crushes have an email you can use to express your deepest feelings in an anonymous way — if you’re into that.

The account said they usually get 8-15 emails a day, but it could be growing.

“My most favorite tweet we’ve had so far was: ‘To Chic-Fil-A, you are my one true love. You have always been there for me. #ieatmyfeelings #emotionaleater,'” she dished. “I actually like the funny crushes better than the serious. They’re not as amusing.”

She admitted that she was a fan of TTU Bus Driver because the account is relatable, but she agreeably likes the  TTU Conference parody account as well.

TTU Conference also chose not to be identified, (they said they were *ahem* gentlemen and scholars). But,they did admit the three that manage the account are friends with TTU Bus Driver. New to the Twitter page, the account as only been around for a few weeks.

“We really didn’t know what to expect,” they said. “We just started tweeting some of our jokes about conference and it kept growing. We didn’t think it would be too successful because of how many parodies there are.”

Needless to say they’ve been backed up by a decent amount of student followers. After all, if you read their Twitter feed, they seem to speak the truth about all Conference has to offer.

“Our favorite tweet we’ve come up with this far would probably be: ‘It doesn’t matter how cold it is outside, it’s always 115 degrees inside of Conference.”

There you have it. All of these Texas Tech Twitter parodies are no different than the average student (because, that’s exactly what they are). Be sure to check out their pages and tweet at them yourself.
