The Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences opened to the public on Jan. 23 in hopes of having an impact on downtown Lubbock, said Tim Collins.

Collins, board chairman of the Lubbock Entertainment Performing Arts Association, said enhancing downtown Lubbock was LEPAA’s main focal point.

“Every great city has a great downtown, and we’re well on our way to that. Revitalization is coming,” Collins said.

According to the Buddy Holly Hall’s Instagram page, the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra performed Jan. 23 and comedian Steve Trevino performed Jan. 30.

John “JC” Lopez, marketing director and events coordinator for Two Docs Brewing Co., said Two Docs–located at 502 Texas Ave.–has already seen the impact of the Buddy Holly Hall from these previous events.

“We built this place because we knew what was going to happen with the Buddy Holly Hall as soon as it was open,” Lopez said.

The Buddy Holly Hall will have an upscale restaurant built inside that will also feature Two Docs beer on tap. Lopez said they are fortunate to have close ties with the Buddy Holly Hall.

Italian Garden, located in downtown Lubbock at 1215 Ave. J, has also seen the impact and drive of business of the Buddy Holly Hall.

Manager Ty Nicks said the restaurant experienced an increase in customers on the night of the comedy show held at the hall.

Nicks said he has lived in Lubbock his entire life and is happy to see the revitalization of downtown Lubbock because of the Buddy Holly Hall.

Italian Garden’s location is convenient since they are so close to the Buddy Holly Hall, said Nicks.

Collins said he hopes the Buddy Holly Hall can be used as a great recruitment tactic to help Texas Tech students stay in Lubbock after graduation.
