Election Night: An Instructor’s POV

It’s been a helluva year! I don’t have to explain for you all to know what I mean. Somewhere between pandemic and politics, we find ourselves continuing with our daily grind, trying to find our footing in the madness–it’s not any different for my students.

My pride for the craft is reflected in the hard work and dedication these men and women put in on a daily basis. And while they have been balancing grades, social life, family issues, personal struggles and career choices during these difficult times, along comes the 2020 election to top off their semester. Instead of folding, this group rose to the occasion, even graciously hosting a group of students from Manchester, England, answering any questions they had.

Is this unique? Sure! The circumstances are certainly different; however, this is the Red Raider spirit. To say that I am impressed is a great understatement. I would like to thank them for allowing and trusting me to help them navigate through these murky waters. And at times when it could’ve been easier to fold, this group pressed on.

Unwavering, these students told stories from various angles, not backing down in the face of adversity all while adapting to the hands they were dealt. These are all important characteristics that our founding fathers exemplified in the development of our democratic nation… and you know what? They also had journalistic ties! Thank you to MMU students and their instructor Dr. Eleanor Shember-Critchley, and thank you to all those who continue to support our content.

Lastly, thank you to Reece Nations, our senior editor, for his dedication and professionalism throughout the years.

Bravo! Go out there and change the world!
