Texas Tech Chancellor Tedd Mitchell Tests Positive for COVID-19

Texas Tech University System Chancellor Tedd Mitchell tested positive for the novel coronavirus Wednesday afternoon, according to TTU System press release.

Mitchell is experiencing “mild symptoms” and learned of his diagnosis after being tested by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center personnel, according to the release. While Mitchell is “isolated and working from home,” administration officials are conducting contact tracing protocols at the time of publication.

“As a physician and advocate of public health, I cannot stress how important it is that we take this virus seriously,” Mitchell said in a statement. “Please remember to wear a face covering, remain socially distant and stay diligent with your hand hygiene. I will keep you updated throughout this period, and I thank everyone for their well wishes.”

According to the Texas Tech COVID-19 dashboard, a total of 1,579 students and 204 employees cases have been reported as of Oct. 7, while the City of Lubbock reported a total of 13,070 confirmed cases and 135 COVID-19-related deaths.
