“Shark Tank” Winners to Speak at Tech

It is not every day Mark Cuban invests $1 million in your company, but for two entrepreneurs speaking to Texas Tech University students in April, it actually happened.

The founders of BeatBox Beverages, a hip boxed wine brand, were contestants on season 6 of “Shark Tank” and won a $1 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks owner.

BeatBox Beverages puts a creative spin on boxed wines with flavors like cranberry limeade and blue razzberry lemonade, which fit into a bright, colorful package made to look like a boom box. According to the company’s website, the creators designed their product with the idea boxes don’t need to be so boring and decided to keep passionate music fans in mind.

Thanks to the partnership of Double Time, a student organization dedicated to entrepreneurship, and Alpha Kappa Psi, two of BeatBox’s founders will visit the Tech campus to give advice about becoming a successful entrepreneur and answer students’ questions.

Isaac Griswold-Steiner, the vice president of Double Time, said while not many people get the chance to compete in something like “Shark Tank,” some might. Griswold-Steiner said hearing about the BeatBox Beverages founders’ unique experience could help future entrepreneurs.

“We think they have a great story and valuable experience that students at Tech can learn from,” he wrote in an email.

Griswold-Steiner said the April 9 event will be held in room 359 of the College of Media & Communication at 6 p.m.

“It’s specifically marketed to people interested in entrepreneurship,” he said, “but I think it could be fun for everyone.”
