CMA Awards’ Best & Worst Dressed

Country music’s biggest stars came together last night in Nashville, Tenn. for the industry’s biggest night, the 48th annual Country Music Awards. The attendance on the red carpet begged many different questions: How is Taylor Swift still invited to these things? Since when is Lucy Hale from Pretty Little Liars a country singer? And, what was this person thinking when they got dressed?

Here’s a recap of the fashion hits and misses.

The Worst:

Clare Bowen (on the left) from ABC’s “Nashville” might have been trying to go for a princess look with this black and white dress, but the embellishments are overboard — way too much going on here. Gretchen Wilson is wearing distressed jeans — at an awards show. Do I need to say anything else? Kacey Musgraves, one of country music’s sweethearts, did it BIG for the night — her hair, that is. Honestly, I had no idea what her dress even looked like until I saw this picture for the tenth time. Maybe she thought a boring dress would compliment the over-the-top hairdo, but it’s just not working.

The “Eh”:

Carrie Underwood (left) and her precious little baby bump got a lot of attention on the Internet as one of the best dressed of the night. I must disagree. Her beige, sparkly dress is not the worst, but the high-low skirt is just not doing it for me — so 2010, am I right? Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert are perhaps country’s cutest couple, so there’s not much to hate on. Miranda made a good attempt at an old Hollywood glamour look, but the color and length are just a little off. Kellie Pickler (right) sported one of the biggest trends of the night, sheer, with her dark blue gown with sheer cutouts from top to bottom. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it.

The Best:

Danielle Bradbery (left) wore a classic black gown and a pop of color with emerald green earrings. The winner of season four of “The Voice” on NBC could have tweaked one thing though. The fishtail braid is cute but not exactly the most appropriate hairdo for a black tie event. Newcomers Maddie & Tae (center) didn’t do bad for one of their first major awards shows. Taylor Dye wore a sheer, white lace gown, another trend of the night, and wore it well. But, I have to ask, why another fishtail braid? Lucy Hale (right) was one of the few country crooners who wore red on the red carpet. The silouette is classic and simple, and the slim black belt cinches in her waist just right.
