Police Altercation at Buffalo Wild Wings

Diners at two local restaurants received a bit more than just a casual dining experience on Feb. 10, when they witnessed an altercation involving the police.

According to an offense report filed with the Lubbock Police Department, three individuals were arrested after a struggle with police at Buffalo Wild Wings on University Avenue around 9 p.m.

Detective Adam Freeman of the Lubbock Police Department said Charles Timms, 22, was first refused service at Bikini’s Sports Bar and Grill and then headed next door to Buffalo Wild Wings where he was later arrested.

According to the offense report, Timms shattered the glass door at Bikini’s Bar and Grill as he punched it on his way toward Buffalo Wild Wings.

The offense report revealed that when police arrived to arrest Timms, he assaulted Officer Brandon Smith in an attempt to flee.

The offense report showed Smith and Timms were sent to University Medical Center to receive treatment. After treatment, Timms was booked into the Lubbock County Jail.

Freeman said Smith is in good shape after the incident.

“He is in good condition, and he’s back to work,” Freeman said.

Freeman said Timms will be facing charges of assault on a public servant, resisting arrest and public intoxication.

Timms has recently been indicted for assault on a public officer, according to the District Clerk’s office.

Freeman said it is difficult to tell what consequences Timms might face.

“Depends on what the DA decides to do with the case,” Freeman said. “It’s hard to determine at this point.”

An eyewitness, who asked that her name not be used, said she had just walked into Bikini’s before the incident occurred. She said she saw Timms being irate with the management and watched as he punched the glass before he went across the street to Buffalo Wild Wings.

She said after the incident people were in disbelief.

According to the offense report, Timms was not the only one involved in the altercation. Rene Perez, 20, and Desiree Rae Timms, 23, were also taken into custody that night.

Freeman said they will be charged with assault on a public servant and interference with public duty service.

He said everyone should be aware of their surroundings, but this particular case is no cause for concerns about safety in the area.

“This is one of the freak random things that happen,” Freeman said.

Freeman also said any servers working in the service industry should do exactly what the two individuals working at Bikini’s did and make management aware of the issue and then call the police.

Management at Bikini’s said they are seeking restitution for the damages to their facility. They said the business is doing fine and they have had no negative effects from the occurrence.

Management at Buffalo Wild Wings declined to comment.
