Christmas Lights

Lubbock and some surrounding subdivision have neighborhoods with Christmas decorations worth the trip to see.

Melinda Garcia, a Lubbock resident, said there are a few places she likes to go look at Christmas lights, including Ransom Canyon, Vintage Township and LakeRidge.

Ransom Canyon is a small town on a lake about 15 miles southeast of Lubbock.  Many of the houses surround the water and have lights on both the front and back. Not every house was lit, but an overwhelming majority were.

Kimberly Crowl, a senior public relations student, said she loved the views surrounding the lake, especially the hilltop views.

Vintage Township is a neighbrhood at 114th and Quaker Avenue. Almost every house was lit up with Christmas lights. The center of the neighborhood has a number of Christmas trees lit up and a sleigh for visitors to take pictures in.

“I really felt the holiday spirit when I was driving through this neighborhood, people seemed to be really into decorating for Christmas for everyone to enjoy,” Crowl said.

LakeRidge is a neighborhood at 82nd Street and Quaker Avenue. Of all the places Crowl visited, she thought LakeRidge had some houses with over-the-top decorations. She did notice that there were quite a few houses that were not decorated at all or not much.

Texas Tech always has Christmas lights up that are first turned on at the Carol of Lights in the beginning of December. The tree at the front of campus is a popular place to take photos during the holidays.

“I was part of the social media team that attempted to do the live streaming of the Carol of Lights this year,” Crowl said. “The lights on the Texas Tech campus are simple, but still something I always look forward to seeing.”
