Once again, my time as editor of The Hub@TTU has come to a close. For those who don’t know, I previously served as managing editor for The Hub from the fall 2019 until I graduated in December 2020.

I want to first thank the wonderful team of faculty advisors who have been there for me each step of the way. Their support and feedback made me a better editor, and it has been an absolute privilege to learn from them all. I also want to thank my family and friends for supporting me too during this journey.

The love I’ve been shown by you all means the world to me. What was true when I first started as an undergraduate journalism major is still true now as I receive my master’s in mass communication– the mission of student journalism is still a noble and rewarding one.

Here, we can find ways to tell stories and serve our peers in our own unique and important way. Sharing what makes Texas Tech a great place to learn and grow with the world is precisely what makes our jobs worth doing. To the students who will go on to take on this role in the future, I only have a few words of advice: remember always to seek out the truth and report it, think of what readers you’ve yet to reach, and trust your judgement.

What has always made The Hub great is its variety. What started as a place for anyone to share their work has become a platform for sharing what’s most important to us as students.

If what you create on this site spreads empathy, understanding and respect for people different from yourself, then the contributions we make to this site will serve a purpose greater than ourselves.

Picking your favorite stories can be a bit like picking your favorite child. That said, I did want to highlight a few special ones here that I am particularly proud of.

For your consideration, here are links to “Angry Birds: ‘Look out below’ say Lubbock’s avian residents,” “Lubbock’s costumed Halloween bike tour back from the dead,” and the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Award-finalist “Joyless: Amusement Park Liquidation Underway, Owner Recalls Past.” So long, and please keep reading.
