The start of the fall semester is a novel chapter for both newcomers and returning students, presenting a chance to make a harmonious balance between educational pathway and personal life. This guide offers practical tips and tricks that offer students adaptable strategies to transition gracefully into the fall 2023 semester while prioritizing their physical and mental well-being.
Stay Physically Active
Engage in physical activities like attending the bodybuilding gym, joining fitness classes, practicing yoga, participating in dance sessions, playing basketball, or enjoying any sport you find appealing. If your schedule is extremely tight, consider cycling or walking to campus.
Consider the Quality of Sleep
Make sure you achieve at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Strive to avoid hitting the snooze button in the morning whenever possible. I place my phone away from my reach when going to bed to help with waking up swiftly. By doing so, you will be less likely to snooze your alarm and be able to start your day more effectively.
Build a Balanced Diet
Craft a schedule for a healthy and balanced diet. Explore easy-to-make meals with high-protein portions that elevate your energy levels without daytime fatigue. If your schedule is very tight, consider preparing your meals the night before and packing them up. Prioritize staying hydrated as much as possible.
Embrace Planning
Utilize a planner — whether in a virtual format or physical version — to stay organized and avoid confusion concerning personal tasks and educational assignments. This practice enhances your confidence in managing your responsibilities.
Be an Effective Communicator
Stay connected with your professors, advisors, staff, and fellows at the university. It helps to navigate your academic journey with greater insight. Whenever you face uncertainty do not hesitate to reach out and ask questions.
Stay updated with TechAnnounce
Check your emails from “TechAnnounce” to remain updated and involved with campus activity. By doing so, you will not miss important events such as research opportunities, new courses or programs, photography exhibitions, job fairs, writing center activities, library workshops, and other campus-related activities.
Explore Artwork Alongside Music and Food
Do not overlook the “First Friday Art Trail” if you’re an art enthusiast. This free event showcases a diverse range of art exhibitions spanning multiple media. It is more than just art; it provides a chance to socialize with people, make friends, enjoy live music, and try delicious cuisine with refreshing beverages. This event unfolds at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts on the first Friday of each month from 6-9 p.m.
Utilize Raider Ride and Carpools
Tech’s Transportation and Parking Services offers students rides across campus from 6 p.m. to 2:45 a.m. seven days a week during the semester. Students with a valid student ID can request a ride for up to 10 passengers during service hours through the TapRide app (Google Play, App Store). Carpooling is a popular mode of transport to off-campus activities, but be sure only to ride with someone you know and trust.
