One Texas Tech group is eager to show everyone the fruits of a semester’s worth of work and fun.
Vitality Dance Company, a student-run organization that produces original showcases, will perform its first Fall 2015 recital next weekend. The performances are scheduled for Nov. 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. in the Creative Movement Studio. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.
The showcase will include several dance routines containing different elements and genres. VDC members choreographed and designed the show.
Dominic Franco, a sophomore member of the group who is studying theater and dance at Tech, said VDC has been rehearsing all semester. Members rehearse seven hours a week on average. Practices can run as late as 11 p.m.
Student choreographers hold tryouts and choose dancers for their pieces. Franco choreographed a jazz piece.
“My favorite part about the dance team is choreographing because I love seeing all the different things I can create,” he said.
Raquel Roulin, a public relations major from Sugar Land, Texas, has been an active VDC member for three years. Roulin said the team is relaxed but passionate about dancing. Everyone who appreciates dance should see the recital or try out for VDC next fall, she said.
The organization is open to any Tech student, regardless of major.
Peyton Millington, an event management major from Richardson, Texas, said she likes the team’s diversity.
“I love how we are all different people with different backgrounds and majors,” Millington said. “But somehow we come together and just love each other because we really are a big family.”
More information about the organization and the recital is available on the VDC Facebook page.
“Come out and audition if you love to dance,” Franco said. “As far as the recital goes, the pieces are super great, so come and check us out.”
