A new local company is targeting a receptive audience: hungry students.
LBK togo picks up meals from various local restaurants and delivers them to homes, hotels, offices or schools. The company, which opened in April, has teamed up with 15 local restaurants.
Austin Monceret, LBK togo’s marketing director and a Tech alum who describes himself on LinkedIn as a “collegiate recovery specialist,” said the process is simple. Customers register on lbktogo.com, choose a restaurant and then choose their meal. A driver picks up the food and delivers it. The minimum order is $15.
“I think bulk ordering is great for students who have roommates or even for friends studying together at the library,” Monceret said
To make a profit, LBK togo has recreated the participating restaurants’ menus with slightly higher prices. Everyone who orders is charged the same delivery fee of $3.99. For now, the promo code “eatlbk” shaves 10 percent off.
Marissa Jones, a Tech student who works for Italian Garden, one of the restaurants teamed up with LBK togo, said the process is convenient for both customers and restaurants.
“As far as me being a server in the restaurant, it’s always pleasant working with them and it’s really no different for me than making another to-go order,” Jones said.
LBK togo has received mostly positive reviews on Facebook, Yelp and Google.
Kevin Gene Thompson, a graduate student in the College of Media & Communication, gave the delivery service five out of five stars on Facebook.
“Always prompt and always great service!” Thompson said. “Thanks for always delivering my Thai food straight to my office!”
Thompson added in an email that he had been using the service for a few months. Although a little pricey, he said, he uses it once every week or two—often when working late in the office or when he does not feel like leaving his house.
Starting this month, LBK togo will be advertising in buses whose routes include Tech’s campus.
“We are filling a need, while also increasing other restaurants’ business,” said Monceret. “When you look at it that way, there shouldn’t be any hesitation to order from us.”
