The 7 Fashion Essentials You Need for Fall

Happy fall, y’all! It is that time of the year again — the time of pumpkin spice lattes (and pumpkin spice everything else), dates with your boyfriend (or whoever) at the corn maze, scary movie night seshs with your gal pals and the best fashion season of all. There is a pro and con to fall fashion, the pro being there are a lot of options to choose from. The con is there are a lot of options to choose from. If you are the person questioning, “what is the difference between night time booties and day time booties,” then this list is for you. Don’t get me wrong; I love Nordstrom, and I love all of their fashion tips, but for someone who is just finding their inner fashionista, the amount of things the store suggests you buy in one season’s worth of time is just unrealistic. Here is a concise and shortened list of all the things that you need (yes, NEED) for fall.

1. Riding Boots

Riding boots are the absolute No. 1 essential for fall. Whether it is 60 degrees or 30 degrees outside, these will be your go to! The majority of riding boots are extremely comfortable — making them ideal for the long treks across campus. In addition, they are so cute! You can wear them with a knit sweater and jeans, a long sleeve dress or whatever else you have stowed away in your closet.

2. Chunky Scarf

These are cute and fuzzy, and it keeps you warm. Need I say more?

3. Jeggings

Jeggings, a word created by fashion icons who have the same daily mindset that we have; how can I look cute but be comfy? Jeggings = extremely comfortable, soft, affordable, perfect and dream-worthy leggings that look like jeans. Most pairs are so similar to jeans that people will think you did that happy dance in the morning — where you squat, jump and bend to get your jeans up to your waistline to button the button. You will forever say goodbye to your jeans once you buy a pair of these puppies.

4. Neutral Everyday Booties

Booties, booties, booties: where do I begin… Do you want them high? Do you want them low? Regardless, they will steal the show. Booties are the perfect shoes for fall because who would not want them all? With many different styles, colors and creative patterns, you are sure to find a pair that is right for your personality. My suggestion: buy them all, you will use them at least 15 times by the end of fall.

5. Something Leopard

Years ago, Jenna Lyons, the creative director and president of J Crew, said nine famous words that will forever serve as one of our style assurances: “As far as I am concerned, leopard is a neutral.” Girl was not lying. Leopard goes with everything — yes, everything. Whether you have a pair of leopard shoes, a leopard scarf, a leopard pendant necklace or a leopard top handle bag (majorly jealous if so), it will save your life a time or two.

6. Black Sunglasses

The reason I say black sunglasses are an essential is because fall is definitely not the time to be whipping out your bright purple or bright orange Ray-Ban aviators. While these particular styles may work with some ensembles, they are more than likely not going to be your go-to pair. Other colors try to compete with black, such as orange, who recently thinks it is the new black, but this go-to color is here to stay. Stick to black sunglasses during fall; they will go with almost every outfit you put on, I promise! Another tip: if you are going to spend money on one thing this season, it should be on sunglasses (if you take care of them!!). Black sunglasses are one of the few fall options that can squeeze its way into the seasons ahead. If you are feeling guilty about this purchase, divide the total by the amount of times you will wear it — so 365 at least because every day is an option for black sunglasses. This number is very likely to be a negative number (unless you spend more than $365 on them); so, they were basically free.

7. Gold Studs

You absolutely need a pair of studs for fall. With cold fronts coming in (i.e., tons of wind), it is best to put your hair up to avoid any crazy tangles. A pair of studs adds just the right touch, and gold is the go-to accent color of fall.
