Texas Tech Moves Up In The World, Or At Least In Rankings

Texas Tech University’s goal to become a top tier university is becoming more attainable every day. Appearing on two national college ranking lists this week will help Tech get there.

The Texas Tech Jerry S. Rawls College of Business Administration has been voted the third best business school in the nation by College Atlas.

Based on affordability, accessibility and academic quality, the Rawls College is the only Texas school in the top 10 of the list. The University of Cincinnati tops the list at N0. 1.

Lance Nail, the dean of the Rawls College, is proud of the school’s ranking.

“We are delighted by this recognition from College Atlas, as it reflects the commitment of the Rawls faculty and staff to delivering a high-quality MBA program at an affordable cost to our students,” Nail said in a statement. “The recognition also confirms that our college’s decision to restructure the program with greater academic rigor and professionalism is what recruiters truly want.”

The Rawls College offers five major options and many concentration options. The college is the only school in Texas to have an accredited accounting school. With 3,789 undergraduate students, the Rawls College is one of the fastest growing programs on campus.

Shahaley Carr, a 2014 marketing graduate, said her time in Rawls College prepared her for her career in Washington, D. C.

The Rawls College of Business provides graduates with more than just a piece of paper,” Carr said. “It has given me the experience, passion and knowledge to be successful post graduation, and I credit my education to the phenomenal faculty and staff. Attending Rawls of College of Business at Texas Tech University was easily one of the best decisions I have ever made.”

Tech also moved up in the the U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) 2015 best colleges lists.

Tech is ranked 156, rising five spots since last year’s report on the national university scale. On the public university scale, Tech is ranked 84, rising from 88 on the 2014 report. Tech’s five point increase is the largest jump in the Big 12 Conference.

Rice University  is the only Texas school to crack the top 20 schools on the list. The University of Texas at Austin ranked No. 56, and Texas A&M University came in at 68.

Tech President M. Duane Nellis is optimistic that this ranking will help to continue increasing enrollment numbers.

“Annually, one of the sources families of prospective high school students look to is the U.S. News & World Report rankings as a reference when deciding on which university to attend,” Nellis said in a statement. “We are proud of our efforts at Texas Tech to continue striving upward and making our wonderful university a higher education choice for more and more outstanding students each year.”

Faculty members may be proud of Tech being in the spotlight, but students are excited as well. Bret Brown, a sophomore journalism major, said he chose Tech because of its high job placement rate after graduation. Brown is a host on the nationally syndicated Double T Insider, an opportunity he said he would not have anywhere else.

“I am a proud Red Raider because we have accomplished a lot just in the few years I’ve been here,” Brown said. “There have been some great things happening here at Texas Tech, and I’m just getting started. I can’t wait to see what can happen even further down in my college career.”
