Have You Registered For The HUD Tournament?

A few weeks ago, The Hub introduced Head’s Up Display and discussed their upcoming event, the Ultimate Gamer Tournament. Gamers, the time has come for you to sign up for the upcoming event.

Carmen Askerneese II, creator and leader of Heads Up Display, said the group could not be more excited that everything is finally falling into place. He said students and people above the age of 18 and up are allowed to sign up for the tournament April 14 – 24. Askerneese said the event’s proceeds will go to a charity HUD holds close to their hearts. He said Child’s Play is a charity they have helped sponsored before, and they want to do something bigger to help raise more money for kids to have fun while they are sick in the hospital.

The Ultimate Gamer Tournament will take place on May 3 at 11:00 a.m. through May 4 at 12:00 a.m. at the United Spirit Arena on Tech’s campus. Askerneese said there are two forms of registration. One way a gamer can register is for the Ultimate Gamer Bracket (for $20), or individuals may also register for other individual brackets ($10). Askerneese said the games that will be provided for the tournament include “Call of Duty: Ghosts,” “Halo 4,” “Injustice,” “Street Fighter,” “Madden 25,” “FIFA 14,” “Mario Cart,” and more.

Askerneese said the best part about the registration process is every 10th person who registers will get a $25 United gift card and other prizes. But, the ultimate prize for those who get far in the tournament is bigger than any form of gift card. Askerneese said whoever wins the Ultimate Gamer Bracker will receive an Xbox One Titanfall Bundle and a PS4.

If that’s not enough incentive, The Hub@TTU will be hosting a smaller tournament to help individuals practice their gaming skills and a chance to meet the members of HUD. The event will take place in the basement of the College of Media and Communication in Room 81 at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 16. Games will be provided by the HUD team and there will be lots of food. The Hub staff and HUD will also have computers open to whoever would like to register for the Ultimate Gamer Tournament during that time.

Last but not least, throughout this entire process be sure to use the hashtag “#GamersGiveBack” in order to show your support for the event. The Hub will also be giving out a gift card to whoever tweets the hashtag #GamersGiveBack the most. Feel free to post the hashtag on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and tag @HubTTU along with it.

For those who do not wish to sign up for the tournament, HUD members said they will need volunteers to help set up and monitor at the actual tournament. If you are interested in helping, please contact Carmen Askerneese at carmen.askerneese@ttu.edu. For those who feel like donating to the event, there is an option for that on the site as well. For more detail information about the event, visit the tournament’s Eventbrite site.
