Short Film: The Canvas

thecanvasAfter getting his first C in Art Appreciation, a class he enjoyed but just did not do great in, Juan Gil was determined to turn a negative into a positive. The art he studied in the class inspired his short film, “The Canvas.”

“I was pissed that I got a C, but at least I got a short film out of it,” Gil joked.

Gil, a junior electronic media and communications major, wrote and directed the short film for Visual Storytelling, a class taught by College of Media & Communication professor of practice, Jerod Foster. He said he looks up to Foster and wanted to do a good job on the assignment, which has since been entered into multiple film festivals.

“The Canvas” will be featured with other short films at the Flatland Film Festival on Oct 7. at 9 p.m. at Alamo Drafthouse.
