Lee’s Cafe: Food with Soul

Located in the heart of downtown Lubbock, Lee’s Cafe has been cooking up down-home, Southern cuisine that has customers coming back again and again.

When you step into Lee’s newly remodeled restaurant, you enter a retro-style time capsule filled with witty wall decals, smiling faces and the mouth-watering aroma of soul food.

Raising seven children, Dorothy and Robert Lee had no choice but to have substantial amounts of food on hand at all times. When the idea of opening a family business came about, there was no confusion about what it would be: a restaurant.

Since it opened in January 2014, Lee’s Cafe prides itself on serving customers hand battered, hot, fresh food with made-to-order entrees seasoned by Dorothy each morning. Every side dish from sweet yams, collard greens, black-eye peas, macaroni and cheese and many more are made early on a daily basis in preparation for opening at 11 a.m.

When asked what is the top selling dish at Lee’s, Dorothy indulged that everything sells fast.

“It’s not that many items on the menu that we really don’t sell. When customers ask us whats our best we say, “everything,” Dorothy said. “Some restaurants are known for special dishes like chicken and waffles, but our customers really eat everything.”

With dishes like “The Bob Lee Burger,” which is named after their son, chicken fried steak, smothered pork chops and many more, Lee’s menu displays the perfect mix between southern cooking and comfort food.
