Charley B’s: Lubbock’s Largest Dancehall

By Kelsee Pitman

If friends ask you why you go to Texas Tech—since Lubbock is allegedly so boring—tell them about a new Hub City attraction that may turn some heads.

Charley B’s, a country dance hall, opened at the beginning of January at 5402 Fourth St. It has already featured many country performers, such as Whiskey Myers, Randy Rogers and Wade Bowen.

“The atmosphere … is really fun,” said Ryen Hollinger, a bartender at Charley B’s. “It’s huge, and they are getting a mechanical bull.”

Charley B’s website describes the venue as “Lubbock’s largest bar with Lubbock’s largest wooden dance floor.” It offers 27,000 square feet of smoke-free dancing to anyone over 18.

David Bess, a Texas Tech student who has visited Charley B’s, said he saw a mix of people of various ages.

“But there was plenty of country people there to dance with,” he added.

In addition to the dance floor, Hollinger said, Charley B’s also has a VIP section, rows of tables for patrons “to sit and chill,” and an additional area from which they can watch the performers.

If you are interested in some two-stepping or listening to country music, check out Charely B’s lineup.

How does Charley B’s compare to other dance halls in Texas?  It seems to be one of the top five. See this storymap to find out more about the best dance halls in the state.
