“The stars at night are big and bright.”

You know what to do.

The “Deep in the Heart of Texas” lyrics describe the open night skies, but Texas has been home to many musical stars as well. Beyonce, Janis Joplin, George Strait and Vanilla Ice have all lived in The Lone Star State.

Even musicians who are not from Texas wish they were, writing and singing songs about the open roads, small towns and major metroplexes. Texas Tech graduate and country musician Pat Green speculates in his song “Songs About Texas” that every Texas town has a song written in its honor.

This Spotify playlist collects some of the best songs by or for Texans. At over four hours, plug this in next time you are on the road, and figure out what they are all singing about.
