Weekly Poll: Would You Go to Planned Parenthood?

“Planned Parenthood Lubbock” is one of the most common search terms that lead people to The Hub@TTU, sending visitors to an article about two local Planned Parenthood locations that closed in 2013.

The Planned Parenthood locations in Lubbock offered STI/STD testing and treatment, cancer and preventative screenings, contraception and abortions.

When Generation Healthcare acquired Planned Parenthood in 2014, its goal was to provide pro-adoption and family planning services to lower-income and uninsured people. Generation Healthcare closed in 2014. According to a previous Hub@TTU article, even with a for-sale sign in the parking lot, women still stopped by to see if the clinic was open.

The closest Women’s Health and Family Planning facility is over 40 miles away in Brownfield, Texas. The closest abortion clinics are in the Fort Worth, Dallas and El Paso areas. To find out more about sexual healthcare in Lubbock, visit our microsite.

The first thing that comes to mind to people of Planned Parenthood is “Abortion.” However, peoples minds tend to get the best of them. Planned Parenthood is so much more than an abortion clinic. Often many people do not understand what an STD or STI is? And most importantly how to go about a real health check up! As an adult, where can you purchase condoms usually? At most grocery stores or Gas Stations. Here at this facility they give away free contraceptives or condoms to people asking or wanting them. How can you deny people who want to have pre-marital sex in safe convenient matter? It just outright wrong, and not in their disposition to argue against it. And for the Christian community to intercede in prevention of couples having sex before marriage is outright ludicrous. There are many Christians or self called Republicans who have had pre-martial sex. They ultimately decided to have safe sex with a condoms, and dare now try to stop a progressive society from having sex all together. So why don’t you start Questioning Republicans on how they had sex for the first time? And see how they like that?
