Conversations with Candidates: OneTech 2016

Tanner Warmoth contributed to this article.

All students at Texas Tech have at least one thing in common: we are all Red Raiders. Student Government Association candidate bloc OneTech 2016 hopes to unify the student body even more.

OneTech 2016 has ideas on how Tech can improve every student’s college experience.

John Michael Getz, the bloc’s candidate for SGA president, said his platform is to help students save money. If elected, Getz would like to increase scholarship funds and decrease textbook prices by pushing for tax-free options. Getz would also like to save students some gas money by having Chick-Fil-A locations on campus serve breakfast, specifically chick-n-minis.

Chris Mitchell, OneTech’s candidate for external vice president, said that if elected, he would like to improve transportation for students. Mitchell would like to see Tech buy its own buses, ending the partnership with Citibus, because it would save the university money and allow underfunded entities to prosper. He would also like to continue community outreach programs, such as the newly implemented Tech to Town.

Larken Lundgren, the bloc’s candidate for internal vice president, is running on a platform focused on increasing awareness of SGA. If elected, she hopes to spread the word about SGA’s accomplishments and inform students what the organization can do for them. Lundgren would also like to see increased funding for student groups.

Decreasing graduate students’ stress levels is top priority for Chelsea Clark, OneTech’s candidate for graduate vice president. If elected, Clark would like to work on a project to open a student bar in West Village, an upperclassmen residence hall. Her other important goal is to seek to equalize graduate student research and teaching, which would make time management less stressful stressful.
