TTU Student Kidnapped, Robbed

A Texas Tech student has reported being kidnapped and robbed by two men early this morning.

The male student was on campus, near Main Street, when his attackers showed him a firearm, forced him into his own vehicle and took away his phone, according to a press release from the Texas Tech University Police Department. The victim reported being forced to drive around for an hour and a half and withdraw money from ATMs.

The assailants returned to campus and forced the student to let them into Sneed Hall because they wanted to rob another student, the report said. The student signaled their next intended victim, and the attackers left campus after a struggle.

TTUPD identified the suspects as young black men. One was tall and wore a gray sweatshirt and denim jeans. The other one was shorter and wore a red “Air Jordan” sweatshirt and pink shoes.

Capt. Steve Hinkle said he could confirm only the information already in the press release because an investigation is ongoing.

Those with any information about the incident are encouraged to contact the Texas Tech Police Department at 806-775-2864 or Crime Line at 806-741-1000.

A similar incident including a robbery and aggravated assault was reported the day before classes began this semester. According to the press release, on the morning of Aug. 23 a victim was held off campus against his will while an assailant stole his keys and burglarized his dorm room in Murdough Hall.

The victim sustained minor injuries, according to the release, and weapons, drugs and alcohol were suggested to have been involved in the incident.
