Welcoming Assistant Professor of Practice Lisa Du Bois Low

The Texas Tech College of Media and Communication is proud to report Lisa Du Bois Low will be serving as an assistant professor of practice in public relations beginning next semester. According to an email from Dean Perlmutter, Ph.D., Low will also take on the editor position for the college’s newsletter, Alumni Advantage.

Low frequently gets asked to guest lecture for course sections in agricultural communications, PR writing and PR strategy. Her strengths in web-based tools include new media, search engine optimization, crisis management systems, and apps for mobile technology.

“I have found that hands-on use of new media tools and active discussion of theory as it relates to current events are critical to positive learning outcomes.”

Alumni Association feature picLow served as director of communications and multimedia for the Texas Tech Alumni Association for the past three years. She was responsible for overall brand marketing and communication strategy in order to increase membership and boost the brand image for Texas Tech.

She previously served as associate director of digital communications and emerging media. In this position, Low executed various emerging media and user-generated content, including smart phone apps, iTunes U, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube. Low consistently helped Texas Tech rank as a social media leader.

As senior editor of web communications, Low established Texas Tech’s social presence on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. She was in charge of the redesign, production and editorial content for Texas Tech Today, a monthly newsletter with a distribution to around 60,000 alumni, and designed the corresponding website to help expand readership.

She also served as senior business counselor at Texas Tech; she provided consulting services to local businesses and taught business and financial curriculum.

“Low is certified in crisis communications and was responsible for establishing the Texas Tech University Emergency Communications Center and the branding and promotion of the TechAlert! System to university stakeholders and the local community,” the dean said in his announcement email.

Low has worked with Texas Tech students from a variety of disciplines such as journalism, marketing, agricultural communications, public relations and computer science. Her internship programs are comprised of content development, web production, public relations in new media, video production, web writing and finance.

“I have an open mind and a youthful attitude students seem to relate to,” Low said. “My goal is to inspire rather than lecture, and my years of communications experience make it easy for me to adapt to different learning styles.”
