Stress and Final Exams

At this time of year, students are preparing for or finishing up final exams. However, there is more of an incidence of college students using ‘study drugs’ to help them focus on final exams. George Comiskey, an instructor of addictive disorders and recovery studies, said the fall semester is the most challenging for students because of the incoming holiday season. Comiskey said abusing ‘study drugs’ can lead to a continuous pattern of drug abuse.

Dr. Lisa Viator, director of clinical services at the Student Counseling Center, said students should take breaks in between studying. Also, Viator said exercising is a good way to manage stress.

On campus, there are outlets for relieving stress such as the MindSpa which cater to Tech students, faculty and staff. The Mindspa is located at the Student Counseling Center.
