Parking Tickets Do Good

This Christmas, students have the opportunity to make a child’s Christmas morning while also giving themselves a gift.

Texas Tech and the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots Foundation are combining efforts to host Toys for Tickets, a program that allows students to have an unpaid parking citation dismissed with the donation of a toy.

“It’s a way for students, employees, even visitors, to take care of a parking citation by donating a new, unwrapped toy that is of at least the value of the citation,” said Stacy Moncibaiz, the marketing coordinator for Tech’s transportation and parking services.

Moncibaiz said students need to bring the receipt to prove the toy’s value.

She said certain types of tickets are excluded from the offer, including tickets for parking in a reserved handicapped spot, parking in front of an access ramp, and the use of a fraudulent license plate.

Moncibaiz said in the first year the program was hosted in 2009 they received 200 toy donations and have seen a tremendous amount of growth since then.

The Toys for Tickets drive is being held until December 12, and donations can be dropped off at the Administrative Support Center located on the corner of 4th and Flint Ave.
