Song of the Week: “Backseat Shake Off” Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar Mashup

This week, the notorious mash-up duo, The Hood Internet, released their latest production, an ultra high energy mashup of Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Backseat Freestyle.” The song is appropriately named “Backseat Shake Off” and is arguably one of the best mashups I’ve seen in a while. With Taylor Swift releasing her album 1989 earlier this month and the official video for “Blank Space” going viral on Monday, the country princess turned independent woman is somehow blowing up even more in popularity. Not to mention, K.Dot’s latest single “i” is played constantly on mainstream radio and even broke the Billboard Hot 100 top 50 songs. I think it’s safe to say both T-Swift and Kendrick are definitely peaking.

Although the two artists really have nothing in common musically, The Hood Internet mashed their two beats in a way that has a perfect flow.

The mashup starts off with “Martin had a dream, Kendrick have a dream..” from the “Backseat Freestyle” intro played over the unforgettable “Shake it Off” beat that has been stuck in all of our heads since its release. Kendrick steals the vocals for the first minute or so and then rapping turns into Taylor’s “I stay out too late…” as the bridge to “Backseat Freestyle” ends. Whether you are a “Swifty” or not, this song is so fun to listen to that I dare to say fans of all genres will enjoy it. Listening to “Backseat Shake Off” put me in a much better mood after I heard it, and I sincerely hope it brings you a little warmth to this freezing week in Lubbock.

Check out this banging mashup below. Enjoy!
