Trend Alert: Flash Tattoos

For the majority of college students, it has not been socially acceptable to wear temporary tattoos for quite some time. However, as of recently, the brand Flash Tattoos has totally changed the tattoo game.

These gold and silver metallic tattoos were seen all over concert goers during the music festival season and do not seem to be disappearing off social media outlets any time soon. These temporary tattoos also make for the perfect addition to a quick and easy Halloween costume.

Unlike the cartoon and clip art like tattoos we used to get as kids, these temporary tattoos are much classier. Most are reminiscent of jewelry or abstract shapes and designs. They also range from a small inconspicuous size to a large statement tattoo.

You put these tattoos on the same way you do any other temporary tattoo. On almost every brand, it is advertised that the tattoos will stay on for up to four days. I have found this to be true if you are diligent at not putting lotion on your skin and are careful not to scrub them too hard when showering. Soaking or rubbing your skin in baby or olive oil is an effective way to remove them quickly. This makes it easy to wear the tattoos for a night out and then remove them the next day.

The brand that started the whole craze is Flash Tattoos. However, this brand can be a little pricey. On www.flashtat.com you can browse all of their tattoo collections. Each purchase comes with 3 to 4 sheets of tattoo designs and range from $22 to $30, depending on the size of the tats. Currently, no store in Lubbock carries the Flash Tattoo brand. Fortunately however, there are a variety of almost identical products on the market that retail for a lot cheaper.

My favorite brand so far is LULU DK. Available at local boutique STOCK, off Glenna Goodacre, this brand typically sells for $20, and you still get multiple sheets with your purchase.

But if you’re really on the hunt for some tats and are on a budget, there are multiple Etsy vendor pages that sell products almost identical to the Flash Tattoo brand. One vendor, CheriTrendy, sells one sheet with 10 to 20 tattoos for $10.50. Her shop has a wide variety, and for a price like that, you really can’t go wrong.

This tattoo trend is very versatile and if done right, you can show off your tats all year long. Here are a few suggestions on how to tastefully wear your flash tattoos.

  • Mix tats in with your usual jewelry pieces.

  • Replace your jewelry with a statement flash tattoo.

  • Opt for the smaller tats and wear them as accent pieces.
