Sorority Claims It Is Not Under Investigation

A story posted Friday on The Daily Toreador website said a Texas Tech University sorority was under investigation after photos appeared on a gossip website, but sorority officials stated that the sorority is not under investigation.

Gawker.com alleged that members of Zeta Tau Alpha took racist photos before going to a “Border Patrol” party last weekend.

The Daily Toreador originally reported that Zeta Tau Alpha allegedly hosted this “party.”

The photos involved an individual dressed in a border patrol uniform, arresting two individuals dressed in sombreros.

Only one individual in the picture is a Zeta Tau Alpha. This matter has been brought to the attention of the chapter and they are handling the situation, according to an alumna close to the sorority. She said the the sorority did not hold such an event, and there is no record of this event at Texas Tech at this time.

No names have been mentioned in reports, but the faces of the women involved were not blurred in the pictures.

The Daily Toreador recently updated the story to contain a denial by the sorority, quoting Zeta Tau Alpha’s director of education and communications.

Our source also stated that the sorority is not under investigation.

In a statement to The Daily Toreador, Juan Munoz, senior vice president for institutional diversity, equity and community engagement and vice provost for undergraduate education and student affairs, said the incident was being investigated. The statement did not say anything about an investigation of the sorority.
