Sarah’s Summer Playlist

Want some great songs to listen to while laying out by the pool? Here is what I have on my summer 2014 playlist!

Wild Cub – Colour

Wild Cub had a pretty big hit on the alternative scene earlier this year with their song “Thunder Clatter,” but “Colour” is definitely their summer song. This song would be perfect to play at a barbecue by the lake.

Drunk In Love – Beyonce

Bey will forever be the queen, and this song solidifies it! It is fun, and makes you want to dance. Sing your heart out at Cricket’s to this some Monday night. All I can really say is, WATERMELON.

Elevate – St. Lucia

This song has a great 1980’s vibe that always reminds me of Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long.” Expect to hear remixed versions of this song in dance clubs this summer.

Who Needs You – The Orwells

Let’s go back to the summer after you graduated from high school. Do you remember that feeling of freedom? When your parents could not really tell you what time to be home anymore? Trust me, if this song had been around then, it would have been your anthem.

This Must Be The Place – The Talking Heads

Oldie but goodie. This is absolutely my favorite song from the 1980s, and rightfully so. It’s romantic, and lighthearted, and just great. Please excuse the crummy fan made video. This song came out before the MTV age. If you don’t particularly care for this version, try The Lumineers rendition. It’s acoustic, and also fantastic.

Balance – Opus Orange

This one is just catchy and fun. Blare this song while you’re getting ready for a night on the town.

Fancy – Iggy Azalea

So far, this song is the best contender for “Song of the Summer.” Iggy Azalea has been on my radar for a while, mainly because she does not fit the normal mold of the rap world. I’m really happy that she’s receiving the success she deserves. Check out some of her older songs, which typically have too raunchy names to be posted here.

Stolen Dance – Milky Chance

“Doing the boogie all night long!” Do you want to listen to this song yet?

Riptide – Vance Joy

I’m just a sucker for a ukelele. Vance Joy is pretty new on the music scene, and currently has only four songs available on iTunes. He’s working on a full length album, so look for it soon!

Going To California – Led Zeppelin

Something about summer always makes me want to listen to classic rock. Led Zeppelin is by far my favorite, and this track is simply perfect to listen to while working on your tan with a good book in hand.
