College Of Media & Communication Dean’s Council Accepting Applications

Dean's-council

Would you like to have a say in what happens in the College of Media & Communication? Then Dean’s Council is the place for you!

Dean’s Council is an organization of students serving as liaison between the student body and Dean David Perlmutter, Ph.D. The Dean’s Council  brainstorms new ideas to improve our college, and restructures ideas that are already in place.

Ben Jarvis, a senior media strategies major and president of the Dean’s Council, said the College of Media & Communication Dean’s Council has achieved a lot during his two years there.

“So far, we’ve been able to reform curriculum under (former) Dean Hudson. We’ve been able to advise Dean Perlmutter on new certificate programs, as well as labs. Sam’s Place down in the college, that was one of the things that Dean’s Council was able to initiate with Dean Hudson,” Jarvis said. “There’s a lot of great things that you don’t see Dean’s Council doing, but it’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work that we’ve done for the college.”

Abigail Arroyos, a senior journalism major who is a member of the council, said Dean’s Council is an excellent resume builder and an easy way to get involved.

“It gives me a chance to have a voice and be a voice for a lot of the people that are in the College of Media,” Arroyos said. “Because otherwise, I wouldn’t have a say in what kind of classes I have to have to graduate. I wouldn’t really have a say in what’s being taught in these classes. So, I think one of the major benefits is being able to have a little control over what I’m studying.”

“It gives me a chance to have a voice.”

Jarvis said the Dean’s Council is comprised of some of the most involved students in the college. He said Dean’s Council is just one of many credentials on these student’s already impressive resume. He said although competition is tough, do not be afraid to apply.

“There’s always a new perspective that we’re not seeing or that we don’t hear, and that’s always a great thing to have, is new ideas and new perspectives,” Jarvis said.

If you are interested in applying, applications are available online and are due by April 16.
