The World Of Worldcraft Experience

With the events of Blizzcon having come and gone last weekend, I thought it would be a good time to discuss World of Warcraft (WoW) and how it pretty much changed the way I look at video games.

I played WoW for about five years, and, although I do not play anymore, I still have flashes of nostalgia whenever I see news stories about events happening in WoW. Now, WoW is a different kind of video game, and one I will never forget. I see it as more of an experience rather than a game. Many players feel it is more along the lines of a lifestyle and requires full attention. I do not view it in this way. WoW provided me with some of the best experiences I have ever had in gaming since I first plugged in my Super Nintendo. You do not play WoW. You experience it.

In terms of exploration, no other game comes close to the amount WoW provides. It is thanks to WoW that I became an explorer-type of gamer. Because I was so drawn to WoW, it made me want to find every kind of secret a video game contains. I love the feeling of freely roaming the world of a game and admiring all the little details game designers put their time and effort into. Games such as “Elder Scrolls” and “Fallout” series come close to rivaling WoW in terms of exploration, but there is one thing WoW provides that most RPGs cannot. You are never alone.

By being a Massively Multiplayer Online RPG, you are able to explore the world or complete quests with your friends or random people you meet online. Being able to group up with other players adds to the excitement of completing a common goal. I have met hundreds of people in my five years of WoW. Whether they were good experiences or bad, I love the fact that I was able to interact with people who I would have never met in real life. I still stay in touch with a few players who I met throughout my WoW career. While I enjoy playing games like “Skyrim,” what I miss the most about WoW is being able to meet new players everyday and having someone by my side when killing a boss.

No game has ever come close to the sheer enjoyment I have had playing World of Warcraft. I place WoW on a pedestal when it comes to my favorite games, and I think I have been spoiled by the amount of content WoW provides. I recommend to everyone that they take the time to play WoW for just one hour so they can play as I did. Not as a game, but as an experience.
