As Domestic Violence Awareness Month comes to a close, the Women’s Studies Program will continue to hold their Hands of Hope collection drive until mid November.
Patricia Earl, unit coordinator of the Women’s Studies Program, says this is the third year they’ve partnered up with Women’s Protective Services by hosting a drive for new or gently used items such as: blankets, mattress covers, sewing kits, cleaning supplies, office supplies, and female hygiene products.

“There’s always a need at Women’s Protective Services and this is just one way to bring awarenesss first of all that they exist,” Earl said.
Students usually use this opportunity to help reach out to Women’s Protective Services, she said.
“Sometimes sororities and fraternities come together and do their own drive,” Earl said. “Then one or two people come and deliver what they’ve collected. The idea is that we [Women’s Studies Program] are the ones that deliver the items to Women’s Protective Services so maybe it makes it easier to drop things off if we’re here on campus.”
Not all the items on the donation list are specifically for the residents at Women’s Protective Services.
“You’ll notice that on there there’s some list for office supplies too, so not only can we help the residents at Women’s Protective Services but we can help the staff because it is a non-profit organization that depends on the community,” Earl said.
The items can be dropped off at Doak Hall Room 125 and will be delivered before Thanksgiving to Women’s Protective Services.
