Is your week dragging like molasses? Does your motivation feel like it’s moving at a glacier pace? Have no fear, New York Fashion Week is here.
Take your mind off that paper you have to write or that tedious math problem you’ve been working on for five days. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has been going on since the fifth and ends today. With the stylish week almost over, I’ve taken the liberty of discovering which designers looks were hot, and which were not. I came up with five individuals who made their models look poised and elegant without even having to try. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the recap of my top picks from New York Fashion Week.
Oscar de la Renta
Can this man create anything ugly? The answer is no. From the moment model Karlie Kloss walks down the runway to the very ending look of absolute perfection, Oscar de la Renta still claims the thrown as prince or pretty. All of his looks were so classic, it was hard to pick a favorite. As I watched all of the models essentially float down the isle I felt like I was back in the 60’s with the flared a-line dresses and bright pops of color. Honestly, I would not change a single thing about his show. His girly-chic line is always tasteful,no matter what year it is.
Zac Posen
Imagine a gorgeous group of fairies or young women at a garden party with flowers strung throughout their hair and you basically have Zac Posen’s 2014 spring line. If I had all of the money in the world I would ask Zac Posen to make my future wedding dress — he’s that good. He was so close to being first but I had to give seniority privileges to Oscar. Posen’s young charm and fresh talent shows in his designs. For example, a decent number of his dresses have pockets. How cool is that?! I would wear it. My favorite look from his line is one of the images below. I’m a fan of mermaid-like dresses so when I saw the look to the right I basically fainted from how gorgeous it was.
Michael Kors
Kors is the king of cool. It’s almost to the point where it’s intimidating. Every time I personally watch a show of his or go through one of his look books I instantly think, ‘Why don’t I look that good?’ It’s as if whatever Kors decides to put on his models they instantly have this persona of casual couture. Also, I think a majority of Kors’s looks are wearable and functional fashion. You could actually wear most of his ready-to-wear outfits and you’d be good to go. I love it when designers create wearable art or something that would instantly appeal to Lady Gaga, but sometimes it’s nice to have an outfit you can go to the movies in.
Tory Burch
After looking at Burch’s designs all I wanted to do was go on a very long vacation to a place with a resort and bad-a swimming pool. Don’t tell me you don’t get a tinge of that feeling, it’s almost impossible not to. Her looks are very classy and fun, and slightly conservative (which I’m totally fine with). Boho chic with some city girl flare is the perfect category to put her designs under. Also, If anyone wants to get me one of her bags for Christmas, feel free to follow through with said action.
Jason Wu
Finally! Someone decides to show off some glitz and glam. I saved one of the best designer’s shows for last. I think every year Jason Wu evolves as a designer. He’s always been edgy, but in his spring 2014 show, he combined his edgy-ness with more glamor aspects. I think the collaboration of the two was a wonderful combination that really stood out to me. Here are some of my favorite looks below.
