From Your New Executives

The new Student Government Association executive-elects are ready to start a new year with new goals and a united effort, according to a statement released this weekend following their by-default Senate confirmation.

Usually, election results are confirmed by a majority vote by the Student Senate, but by not choosing to vote — said Erika Allen, the chairwoman of the Rules and Administration Committee — the 48th Session Senate sends a powerful message to the incoming 49th Session executives and Senate. They cannot disapprove of the election because that would cause more animosity between parties, but they cannot approve of the election because of the nature of the 2013 election process.

The following is the text of the release, provided by Daniel Yates, the graduate vice-president.

Now more than ever is an exciting time to be a Red Raider! Just this year, our university has named a new President, Dr. Duane Nellis; raised over a billion dollars through the Vision and Tradition campaign; and made great strides in our quest to become a Tier One research university!

As your Student Government Association Executive Officers, we look forward to an exciting and successful term in office. On May 1st, we will officially take office with a specific goal of bettering Texas Tech University. Despite a competitive election, we have emerged as a unified team with an even more dynamic platform that solely focuses on working for the students.

We would also like to announce that applications for director positions are now open to the entire student body and encourage students from all different fields to apply. Applications will be disseminated via our website (www.sga.ttu.edu), TechAnnounce, and OrgSync.

We truly appreciate the tremendous amount of support we have received from the student body and look forward to an exciting new school year!

Wreck ’em!
