A major gas leak was reported this morning in north Lubbock at the southeast corner of University Ave. and Glenna Goodacre across from Texas Tech campus.
Currently, areas in and around the leak have been evacuated, and the LFD asks pedestrians and traffic to steer clear of the area until further notice.
As of now, University Ave. is closed from Marsha Sharp Fwy. to Broadway and Glenna Goodacre from University Ave. to Ave. X.
Though the shut-down streets are close to the perimeter of campus, classes have not been cancelled.
Update (Jan. 31, 1:39pm)
The leak has been shut off and repairs are being started. Roads and businesses are still closed but will be allowed to reopen soon.
Update (Jan. 31, 3:28pm)
Lubbock Fire Department and TTU Emergency Alerts have released an “all clear”, giving affected businesses and traffic the signal to return to normal operations.
