New "Man of Steel" Trailer Offers Reflection, Explosions

It’s been a long time since I’ve been excited about Superman. I still remember that feeling of extreme disappointment after seeing “Superman Returns” back in 2006. Even Kevin Spacey couldn’t save that boring mess. But “Man of Steel” is looking like it just might be the Superman movie we’ve all been waiting for. Less camp, more authenticity. (At least as much authenticity as possible in a story about flying alien men.) “Man of Steel” also seems like it’s going to raise some difficult questions regarding heroes, which is something that the recent Dark Knight series did incredibly well. How would our society actually respond to a superhuman being? Would we fight against it? Is it worth losing an entire busload of children to keep this superhuman hidden? Do we deserve Superman?

Say what you want about Zach Snyder, but you just can’t deny his talent for creating beautiful images. His movies are visually stunning, and “Man of Steel” looks like it will be no different in that regard. The story and screenplay were written by David S. Goyer and Christopher Nolan, with Nolan acting as producer as well. I also cannot wait to see Michael Shannon as Zod. Are you excited yet?

Get in line for “Man of Steel” on June 14, 2013.
