Christina Aguilera Honored For Work Against World Hunger

At the 11th annual George McGovern Leadership Award ceremony in Washington D.C. last night, Christina Aguilera was honored by none other than Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

You may be asking yourself, “Why in the world was Christina Aguilera being honored by Hillary Clinton?”

Well, friends, we’ve got the answer.

As you may, or may not, know, X-tina became a dominant figure in the fight against world hunger when she partnered up with the United Nations World Hunger Program, known as the World Food Program, as an Ambassador Against Hunger in 2009.

After being praised by the State Department for her efforts, Aguilera said the kids she meets are looking for the opportunity to have decent nutrition.

“I myself come from a low-income family, so I know what it means to be given an opportunity,” she said. “These kids just want a chance and it all starts with nutrition.”

Before calling Aguilera to accept her award and take a few photos, Clinton complimented Christina on her coaching job with NBC’s “The Voice.”

“If I could sing, Christina, I’d be on your team,” Clinton said.

After she became the official spokeswoman for World Hunger Relief campaign sponsored by Yum! Brands, she performed on the corner of busy streets in order to raise money and awareness for her cause.

She also visited some of the poorest regions in Guatemala in 2009 and two World Food Program sponsored schools after the earthquakes hit Haiti.
